Rourkela Municipality celebrates Local Self Governance Day

Rourkela: The Rourkela Municipality today celebrated Local self Governance Day at its premises. Rourkela SP, Himanshu Lal, gracing the occasion as chief guest hoisted the flag. A website of Rourkela Municipality was also launched. ADM Rourkela R N Mishra urged the employees and councilors to work hard for shaping the municipality into a corporation in lines with Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and in Berhampur. He also informed that plan is afoot to introduce police commissionerate system for the Steel City. Chairman Rashmibala Mishra spoke on the initiatives being taken by the Municipality towards development of Rourkela.     Among others Executive Officer B K Swain, Municipal Engineer M Mishra, Health Officer S K Parida and senior officers of Rourkela Municipality were present. Later, Kennels for Animal Birth Control (ABC) Programme at Panposh SDVO (Sub-divisional Veterinary office), Souchalaya at Ward No.-31 and Vending Zone at Koelnagar were inaugurated.      

FIR lodged against 7 IAS officers

Rourkela: Kalinga Sena president Hemanta Rath today lodged an FIR against seven IAS officers in the state for their role in illegal appointment and misappropriation of public funds. All the seven IAS officers named in the FIR- Soumya Prasad Mishra, V Karthikeyan Pandian, Sujata Karthikeyan, Shalini Pandit, Krishan Kumar, Debjani Chakrabarty and Nitin Bhanudas Jawale- were the secretary of the Rourkela Development Authority (RDA) at some point of time or the other when the illegality took place, the FIR said. Quoting from a purported audit report, Rath told newsmen later that the then secretary of RDA M Seshadri had appointed Manoj Kumar Dash as legal assistant in RDA in complete violation of Odisha Development Authorities Rules. After an inquiry, the then Project director of ITDA Usha Padhi found the appointment ‘illegal’ following which the then collector and vice chairman of RDA ordered the removal of Dash from his post. Sport organizations of Steel City celebrated National Sports Day

Rourkela: Different sports organization of the Steel City today observed National Sports Day on organizing different events. Celebrating this Day Chandrasekhar Sports Organisation (CSO) of Rourkela has organized a felicitation programme at Sector-4 in local Dak Bungalow here.  Being the Chief Guest of this occasion Michael Kindo, Former Indian Hocker player and Olympics bronze medal winner felicitated Hockey player Birendra Lakra of Gurundia village of Sundargarh districts.  Kindo told that the numbers of Odisha Hockey player are less this time in Indian squad in Olympics 2012. He further said day by day the players are getting less in number from Sundargarh district as it was earlier. RSP celebrates National Sports Day

Rourkela: Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) celebrated ‘National Sports Day’, which is also the birthday of hockey legend Dhyan Chand, amidst fun and festivity at Biju Patnaik Hockey Stadium here yesterday. The programme commenced with the offering of floral tributes to Dhyan Chand by chief guest Dr. S K Mishra, Director in charge (M&HS); senior officers of RSP and Sports department, eminent sportspersons and the sports lovers of the Steel City. Highlighting the importance of sports in human life, Dr. Mishra exhorted the students to pursue sporting activities in order to maintain a sound physical and mental health. He elaborated at length on Dhyan Chand’s immense contribution to Indian hockey. Basic facilities elude Kalunga Railway siding

Rourkela: About two years after it was established, the Kalunga Railway Siding (KRS) under the South Eastern Railway is still deprived of several basic facilities. With road condition inside the siding in bad shape, vehicular movement and business has hampered. Set up in October 2010, the siding lacks good road facility, for which transporters find it inconvenient and difficult for transporting various materials from the siding. Prasanna Kumar Jena, a local trader of steel material transporting, expressed his unhappiness over the lack of basic facilities. “The miserable condition of the road inside the siding is a major problem in smooth transport of various materials from Rourkela Steel Plant,” he rued. In rainy season, the situation worsens with the siding area turning into almost a swamp as mud and slush are found everywhere. Genuine beneficiaries left out of PLO cards: CPM

Rourkela: The faulty policy of the administration in identifying the genuine beneficiaries of Poor Left Out (PLO) cards has caused resentment among the people deprived of this facility. Hundreds of people led by Ajay Sharma, Secretary of CPI (M), Rourkela Municipality today demonstrated outside the ADM office. The agitators alleged that the state government has not taken the needy and poor people into account for PLO cards. They alleged that through a survey by the state government recommended for provision of 26000 PLO cards for Rourkela, only 9000 cards were distributed. CPM activists pointed out a paradoxical situation in which tons of food grains are rotting in the FCI godowns and even several tons reportedly buried under the soil, the poor are not provided with food grains. Sumanta Behera, Secretary of CPM, alleged that many poor people have been left out of this scheme. He criticized the government for allegedly dividing the poor and hungry people on APL/BPL/P
