Two hardcore Maoists surrender


Rourkela: After working for eight years with CPI (Maoist), two hardcore Maoists, involved in a number of violent activities and extortion, today surrendered before Superintendent of Police, Rourkela, Himansu Lal.

The surrendered ultras are Jadurai Soy (36) alias Chamra Soy and Bijay Honhaga (30) alias Rakesh.

Briefing media persons here, the SP informed that these two hardcore Maoists were active in the Saranda forest on the Odisha-Jharkhand border. Disillusionment with the Maoist idealogy and its leaders forced the duo to give in before police to lead a normal life, Lal added.

Lal also informed that Rakesh and Chamra had joined the Maoist organisation in 2005 after being pressurized by Anmol Hembram alias Samarji, the then secretary-cum-spokesman of the Dakshin Chhotanagpur Zonal Committee of CPI (Maoists).

Jadurai Soy was an armed cadre and second-in-command of Platoon no.-22 of Chhotanagpur Division while Bijay Honhaga was also an armed cadre, working as secretary of Jan Militia Squad of Saranda Forest. He was also president of Krantikari Kishan Committee, stated the SP.

During interrogation, the duo admitted to their involvement in almost all violent Maoist activities on the Odisha-Jharkhand border areas since 2005. They were involved in a series of ambushes on police parties, blasting of schools, PHCs, Railway tracks, killing of innocent villagers of Topadihi and Langalkata, arson of trucks/trippers at Chunaghati.

Besides, they were part of looting at Roxi and Rangra and encounter with police on June 18, 2012 in Langalkata jungle on Odisha-Jharkhand border under K Balang PS. They had attended a number of Praja Courts held by the Maoist organisation, added Lal.

These two cadres revealed that the Maoists of Saranda forest led by Samarji were also involved in killing of innocent Adivasis, who were suspected to be police informers.

Besides, both the Maoists confessed that they used to extort industrialists, businessmen and contractors to serve their own interest, infomed Lal, adding that frequent bandh calls/ economic blockades had made their life difficult while women contigents are being sexually and mentally harassed by the senior cadres.

The duo admitted that minors and innocent tribals are forced to join their outfit. The day-to-day activities of the Maoists are nothing but looting, violent activities, sabotage leading to death of innocent tribals and damage to public property, said Lal.

Lal said that as per government norms under the rehabilitation scheme, they will get Rs. 50,000 cash immediately while Rs. 2.50 lakh will be provided to each of them later, apart from house building assistance and stipend of Rs. 2000 per month for their vocational training.
