YHAI to organise beach trekking expedition from December 18

Rourkela: Youth Hostels’ Association of India (YHAI), state chapter, will organise ‘Odisha Sea Beach Trekking Expedition 2012’ on December 18. It will continue till December 31.

In a meeting held here recently, YHAI president B K Mallick, secretary P Patnaik, national vice-president P N Dave along with other senior members and functionaries discussed arrangements for the 14-day expedition.

The programme aims at inculcating love for the countryside through trekking routes, apart from providing an outdoor recreational activity and promoting national integration.

Trekkers will enjoy the beauty of the coastal region during the trekking to be held from Puri and Satapada, the area which is marked with, sand dunes, swamps and dense casuarina forests. These natural landscape will be an exciting experience for the trekkers.

The trekkers will have opportunity to see a variety of flora and fauna, black-buck or the giant sea turtles or playful Irrawaddy Dolphins cavorting in the Chilika Lake, giving the entire experience a delightful fillip. Participants can visit to Konark, Dhauli, Khandagiri, Nandankanan Zoo and Bhubaneswar at extra cost (one day trip).

Each partcipant affiliated to YHAI will have to pay Rs. 2,800 while non-members will pay Rs. 2,950 towards cost of nutritious vegetarian food, guidance, insurance and equipment.

Youth of sound health aged above 12 years are eligible to participate. The Base camp will be at Youth Hostel, Puri.

The Central Government employees keen to take part in the trekking expedition are required to avail special casual leave. More information on the expedition can be availed by emailing to yhaiodisha@gmail.com.

This expedition organised by YHAI has been approved by Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, (Department of Personnel and Training), Government of India.
