Summer Trade Expo records Rs. 80-lakh business

Rourkela: The 10-day ‘Summer Trade Expo’ being organized by Expo Event Management Group (EEMG), a leading business outfit of Rourkela at Exhibition Ground here, has recorded business to the tune of Rs. 80 lakh till today. Sanjib Nayak, Head of EEMG, said, “As many as 200 stalls have been put up at the exhibition where a wide range of durable summer products like cotton kurtas and sarees are being sold on a large scale. The wide variety of coolers, water freezer, water purifier and CLF blubs available at the Expo are attracting crowds in large numbers. EEMG has so far done business worth about Rs. 80 lakh.” Earlier, EEMG had organized Rourkela Trade Expo and Odissi Consumer Fair. “This is the first time that we have organized Summer Trade Expo here,” said Nayak. Tardy work of Jhirpani Bridge riles locals

Rourkela: Scores of villages under Nuagaon block in Sundargarh district are facing a lot of inconveniences in communication front as Jhirpani Bridge over Koel river remains incomplete even though its work was started three years ago. Thousands of people living across the river have to take a roundabout way via Bisra block or Kuarmunda to come to Rourkela. They have to travel 30 km more via Bisra block or 40 km via Kuarmunda block. The foundation stone for the bridge was laid by MP Sundargarh Jual Oram. Now only 60 per cent of work has been completed. On completion of bridge over the river, 15 km road distance can be reduced for the commuters. Further they will get greater advantages such as reducing extra expenses on petrol, direct marketing of vegetables, getting better medical facilities, education and many more. Steel City braces up for AIEEE Exam on April 7

Rourkela: The district administration has chalked out a detailed plan for smooth conduct of All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE- JEE Main)-2013 to be held on April 7 and to avoid predictable inconvenience to candidates appearing for the national-level entrance test for admission into central technical institutions. Rourkela is the only offline examination centre for AIEEE (JEE Main) while Bhubaneswar is the online centre for JEE (Main) in the state. As many as 20,164 students are expected to come to the steel city for the test while 33 examination centres are selected to cover such a huge number students to appear for the examination. The district administration has made necessary arrangements to tackle issues like accommodation for students and their guardians, drinking water facilities, route chart, communication facilities through buses, autos and safety of students. Rourkela: “Our  success places more responsibility on our shoulders” said G S Prasad, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), while addressing a gathering at ‘Annual performance review and Award Function,’ here today at Gopabandhu Auditorium. The grand function was organized to take stock of the performance and achievements of the Steel plant, award the individual employees and departments that have made commendable contributions as well as firm up the road map for the new financial year 2013-14. Inaugurating the programme, Prasad dwelt upon the performance of the Steel Plant in the year 2012-13. He added, “During 2012-13, our performance has been much better than the previous year in the areas of production, productivity and quality. With this performance as well as the cumulative performance over the last two years, we have truly established our steel plant as one of the best in the Company.” He was all praise for the stakeholders who have
